From 1947 to 2015, Jinnah to Khan

thelocalist.com-pakistan-politics

“It was 11:59pm on the evening of 13th August 1947 when I heard the news broadcast, spoken by Mustafa Ali Hamdani, that Pakistan had been declared an independent state. It was great success for Muslims of the subcontinent, as we had finally achieved our own independent country. I was waiting for this news for a very long time and it was difficult for me to hold back my tears. Tears of happiness,” my mother said.

I then asked, “Who got us independence? Who made it happen?” My mother replied: “A leader”.

A leader? I assumed it would have been a group of patriotic people fighting for a free and independent nation, or political parties struggling for a democratic free country.

“A leader”, my mother repeated, “only a leader can achieve goals. A leader can influence and motivate people towards achieving their aims.” The leader who made the dream of an independent state of sub-continent Muslims a reality was none other than Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

A leader is someone who is decisive, who can change the world with his ideas, not with battle. Mr Jinnah proved that a leader fights with thoughts.

Muhammad Ali Jinnah (the founder of Pakistan) was born on 25th December 1876 in Karachi Pakistan. Mr Jinnah was not only a successful lawyer, having completed his bar at Lincoln Inn, London, but a great politician and leader. Jinnah struggled hard for a country where Muslims could live freely with respect and dignity. Muhammad Ali Jinnah was initially elected as “Governor General” of Pakistan.

Mr. Jinnah is remembered as a great leader of Muslims in the subcontinent. He was a role model for those who believed that leaders are those who bring about revolutionary change. He always stood by his principles, and he was always ready to faces the challenges of life.

I was very impressed after listening to Mr Jinnah speeches, and I would like to share part of a speech he made on 11 August 1947 while addressing the First Assembly of Pakistan.

“You are free; you are free to go to your temples. You are free to go to your mosques or to any other places of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed – that has nothing to do with the business of the State. We are starting with this fundamental principle that we are all citizens and equal citizens of one State”. This was and remains a very powerful statement from a leader of Pakistan.

This story of great leadership doesn’t end here. After the era of independence in Pakistan, God almighty gifted another leader to us in the form of Mr. Imran Khan (pictured below).

Once a famous cricketer, Mr. Imran Khan is now a politician, founder of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, philanthropist and former chancellor of Bradford University of England. He was born on 25 November 1952 and he a graduated from Oxford University England. As a successful cricketer he captained the Pakistani team that won the cricket world cup in 1992.

I was surprised when I was writing this article as I realized that both Mr. Jinnah and Imran Khan have many similar leadership qualities. Imran Khan is also mentally strong and decisive. He knows how to organize, unite and attract people towards him through his speeches, and he has a very charismatic personality.

Both leaders struggled for their nation, to change the minds of people towards freedom: freedom of speech, freedom of thoughts and freedom of slavery from the corrupt system.

On 23 March 2013, Imran Khan raised the slogan of the “Naya Pakistan Resolution” (New Pakistan) movement. The Naya Pakistan Resolution movement aims to educate the people of Pakistan to cast votes for their rights, to change the corrupt system of democracy and bring about a new democratic system and reforms, where a true leader is elected by choice, not by force. The “Naya Pakistan Movement” encourages the people of Pakistan to stand up and speak up for their rights. Imran Khan sought opportunities to awaken people from their slumber and take part in freeing themselves from the claws of discrimination.

The secret recipe of Imran Khan’s leadership is based on the truth, peace and self-reliance. True leadership is inspiring people, and Khan has gained people’s trust for a new change.

I have been mesmerized by Imran khan’s honesty and truthfulness even under the most difficult situations. Imran Khan is still struggling for the real democracy.

“I strongly believe: “when a leader falls for the nation, the nation rise for the leader.”
